My husband is British and I am an Israeli national. We live in London. My husband is very violent towards our 6 year old son. We are on a family visit to Israel and I would like to stay here with my son and not return to London. My husband who is in London, threatens to sue me for abduction. What are my chances?

If you succeed in proving that there is “grave risk” that your son will be exposed to intolerable physical or psychological harm if and when he returns to the UK, then the Court may allow him to stay and not be returned to his life center in London UK. In the Hague convention there are exceptions, one of which is when the return of the child is dangerous for him, either because of the parent who is abroad (here-your husband) or the country to which he is to be returned (i.e. a war zone), but these are extreme cases, where the Court may allow not to return the child.
